A Look Ahead At Spring Fashion Trends

Posted

It’s been a long winter, but warmer weather is finally making its way into the forecast. As spring rolls in, you might be wondering how to transition your wardrobe or, on the other side of the spectrum, plan a huge purge of your closet.

Regardless of which side of the spectrum you’re on, here are four locally owned clothing stores that can ease your spring wardrobe concerns.

Coterie Boutique

At Coterie Boutique, owner Bess Clark is all about the “third piece” when it comes to spring fashion. The third piece, she explained, is anything you’re layering your outfit with, whether it’s a jean jacket or lightweight trench coat.

“You’re going to peel off the third piece and change your shoe,” Clark said. “From wearing a bootie with a dress, you’re going to put a sandal on. Peel off that first layer, and you’re good to go all the way through September.”

When creating the fall collection, Clark said she revisits the spring collection to make sure the “spring line is always friends with September.”

The spring line at Coterie is playful, fun and contemporary, Clark said. One of the things Clark is most excited to put on display are the two-piece sets made up of a matching top and bottom.

“You see a lot of rompers and jumpsuits and stuff from previous seasons, and this year, we did the sets,” Clark said. “You can go matchy matchy or you can switch and change.”

Coterie Boutique is located at 147C Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. The store is open from 10:00am-6:00pm Monday through Wednesday and Saturday; 10:00am-8:00pm Thursday through Friday; and 11:00am-4:00pm on Sunday. Shop online at www.besssc.com.

Boho Nation

Patrons at Boho Nation will be excited to learn that swimwear is finally available this season.

“We’ve had a huge demand for our customers, because there’s really nowhere to buy swimwear in Severna Park, unless you’re going to the big-box stores,” said Shelby Steedman, the buyer and distributions coordinator at Boho Nation. “I think our customers want something a little more unique, especially if they’re going on vacation and they want that really cute suit.”

Boho Nation partnered with O’Neill. The brand appealed to Boho Nation because of its 365 line, which doubles as swimwear and workout attire.

In addition to the swimsuits, Boho Nation’s spring line features lightweight fabrics and floral patterns, Steedman said.

“Mixing up the fabrics is a big thing for spring,” Steedman said. “Anything lightweight, even if it has sleeves, is still going to take you into spring.”

Boho Nation offers a monthly “sip and save” event where customers are invited to come in for wine, food and discounted prices. The next sip and save event will be in May.

Boho Nation is located at 160 A-7 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park. It’s open from 10:00am-8:00pm Monday through Saturday and 11:00am-5:00pm on Sunday. For more information, visit www.bohonation.us.

Dragonflies Consignment

For those looking to be thrifty or find unique pieces to add to their spring wardrobe, Dragonflies Consignment is the place to go.

This spring, customers at Dragonflies Consignment can find pieces with a variety of prints: polka dots, stripes, checkers and different geometric shapes, owner Cheryl Johnson said.

“A good tip [for spring] would be to buy the sleeveless or short-sleeve [tops] that they can put under their sweaters they already own,” Johnson said.

In addition, this store carries clothing for men, women and children — a one-stop shop for the whole family.

Dragonflies Consignment is located at 2425 Mountain Road in Pasadena. It is open 10:00am-5:00pm Thursday through Friday and 10:00am-4:00pm Saturday. The store is closed Sundays and Mondays.

Courtney Madeline Boutique

At Courtney Madeline Boutique, shoppers will find a lot of bright colors and fun patterns for their spring-to-summer wardrobe. Something new this season is fruity prints — lemons, pineapples, strawberries, you name it — said boutique owner Courtney Ozarowski.

Maxi dresses, which were popular last year, will continue this season.

“You can wear the same maxi to work as you could out at night,” Ozarowski said. “You want to spruce that up by adding a statement necklace.”

To add flair to an outfit, Ozarowski suggests layering with a kimono.

“Kimonos can be thrown over top of a tank top, anything to kind of spruce it up a little bit,” Ozarowski said.

To transition your winter wardrobe into the warmer seasons, Ozarowski proposes pairing a sweater with white or lighter wash jeans.

Courtney Madeline Boutique is located at 4513 #2 Mountain Road in Pasadena. It’s open from 12:00-6:00pm on Wednesday; 4:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday; 1:00-6:00pm on Friday; 11:00am-4:00pm on Saturday; and 11:00am-3:00pm on Sunday. The boutique is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
