Athlete Spotlight: Dylan Wolfe, Chesapeake Boys Lacrosse

Perhaps no player put Anne Arundel County on notice the way Chesapeake’s Dylan Wolfe did this season.

The junior attackman led the county in points this past season with a school-record 99 total points on 65 goals and 34 assists. His play was recognized with a Coaches’ All-County First Team selection, the only Chesapeake player to make the first team.

Wolfe has been playing lacrosse since he was old enough to be on a team, starting at age 6, and he was a player in the CYLA organization through eighth grade. As a result, he has been playing with many of his Chesapeake teammates since a young age. He has played club lacrosse with Rockfish and currently plays for API. Outside of lacrosse, Wolfe is also a member of both the cross country and indoor track teams at Chesapeake.

While his great season was amazing to watch, it was something Wolfe and his coaches saw coming. Wolfe attributes much of his success to the work he put in during the offseason. With two varsity seasons already under his belt coming into this year, Wolfe said he tried “honing in on the details” by focusing on “dodging, footwork, stick skills, and accuracy,” among other fundamentals, to take his game to the next level. Wolfe also credited his coaches and teammates for the work that they did to give him the best chance to succeed.

Chesapeake head coach Rodney Beres said Wolfe took a big step forward this year.

“Dylan is a dynamic attackman that succeeds in dodging from above and behind the goal,” said Beres. “He consistently proves his ability to score from anywhere in the offensive zone. This year, he scored multiple goals in every game and leads his team in both goals and assists while leading the county in scoring. Dylan has elevated the level of his game as well as those around him, guiding a two-win team into an eight-win team. As a two-year captain, Dylan personifies leading by example by always giving 100 percent and demanding the same from his teammates.”

Only a junior, Wolfe still has time to decide where he will attend college. He is currently considering UMBC, Washington College, the University of Mary Washington, and Christopher Newport University, and he hopes to play college lacrosse. He is still unsure of a potential major but is strongly considering studying business or sports management and marketing.

Academics are also important to Wolfe. He has been an honor roll student throughout his entire school career and is enrolled in several honors and AP classes at Chesapeake.

After such a successful junior campaign, the second-year captain has cemented himself as one of the premier scorers in the lacrosse hotbed that is the state of Maryland. With another year of experience and chemistry under their belts, Wolfe and the rest of the Cougars look prepared to push the program forward. A large nucleus of this spring’s 8-7 team will return next year, as the squad will only graduate six seniors. It will be Wolfe’s final shot at the gauntlet of Anne Arundel County teams, and the focus will surely be more on him than in years past, as he will no longer be able to take anyone in the county by surprise.
