Award-Winning Banjoist To Play Annapolis Show

Grammy-winning banjoist and Banjo Hall of Fame member Alison Brown is coming to Rams Head On Stage January 11.

Brown is a former investment banker and co-founder of the Nashville-based Compass Records Group, which is celebrating its 28th anniversary in 2023.  Joining her will be longtime members of her touring quintet: John Ragusa (flute), Mason Embry (piano), Garry West (bass) and Bryan Brock (drums).

Known for taking the banjo far beyond its Appalachian roots, Brown blends bluegrass and jazz influences into a sonic tapestry that has earned praise from tastemakers including The Wall Street Journal, CBS Sunday Morning and People. On her most recent release, “On Banjo,” Brown continues her musical explorations on a set of original compositions with special guests including Steve Martin, Kronos Quartet, Anat Cohen, Sierra Hull and members of the Alison Brown Quintet.

Brown is the recipient of the USA Artists Fellowship in Music and the Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association. A pioneer among women in the music industry, Brown was the first female to win an Instrumentalist of the Year award from the IBMA; in 2019, she became the first female five-string banjoist to be inducted into the American Banjo Museum’s Hall of Fame. In 2023, she launched a banjo school on the Artist Works teaching platform.
