Bucs Boys Defeat BAYS 9-3 For County B Championship

The Buccaneers junior boys lacrosse team coached by Chris Rush completed a championship season on May 20 by defeating BAYS 9-3 to win the Anne Arundel County junior B championship at Kinder Park.

The team of Caleb Jacobs, Ryan Rush, Collin Edds, Gage Bowers, Ashton Burras, Tony Miller, Cameron Neal, Brady Russell, Cody Sutton, Cole Miller, Blaine Bennett, Tony Ennis, Jimmy Higgins, Logan Stacy, Xander Miller, RJ Breeden, Danny Wright and Trent Wise finished the season 8-3 overall.

Comprising many two- and three-sport athletes, the Bucs were a true rec team that assembled just for the spring season and forged their championship despite not practicing or playing together or on club lacrosse teams throughout the season or offseason.

The season included a handful of contests against A Division teams and a memorable shutout victory in the regular season over AYLA. Pasadena entered the playoffs on a three-game win streak.

In the championship, the Bucs led 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter of the championship game and shut out the BAYS in the final frame to claim the title.

Head coach Rush, who coached with assistants Jay Jacobs, Steve Wright and Hand Edds, said the Bucs have grown together over the past two seasons and are poised for ongoing success as they enter high school.

“We wouldn't have had the success that we had without this group of coaches. It has been a pleasure to work with them this season,” said Rush. “As I told our boys, in my mind, by winning the B division title, that makes us the best true rec team in the county. As the head coach, I was very proud of the way the boys pulled together as a family and never gave up when faced with adversity. Our motto all season was ‘Family,’ and the boys showed that all season. This team has played together for the past two seasons and is very close to each other. I will miss being around these boys, as they have become a part of my family, but also I look forward to following them as they move on to the next level in high school and beyond.”
