Century Granite Rocks At Quality Customer Service

Pasadena resident Phil Parker’s career in providing quality customer service began over 20 years ago, when he started as a contractor.

“I began by installing kitchens, and kept at it for a few years. Eventually, I wanted to establish my own commercial space,” he said.

So, in 1996, Parker established Century Granite and expanded it to include all types of granite and stone for kitchens, bathrooms, tabletops, fireplaces, outside kitchens and patios, and more. “We do pretty much anything,” he said.

At the time, Century Granite was known as Century Millworks and was based out of Laurel. Around two years ago, Parker got an idea. “I had lived here in Pasadena for about nine years, and every morning I would just get up, drive to Laurel and never really paid any attention to the possibility of re-locating my business to Pasadena,” he stated. “When the economy blew up, I had to downsize a bit. So I made the decision to bring the business into my local community.”

At first, Parker explained he was a little skeptical of moving the business into his own community. “I was in survival mode and was just taking it week by week, month by month to see what kind of response I would get. Turns out, it’s been the best decision yet.”

Today, Century Granite is located on Mountain Road, directly across from the Pasadena Roller Skating Rink.

“I went from 100% wholesale work, because there was no retail, to 100% retail. I’m also able to work one-on-one with homeowners, which I enjoy a lot,” he added. “Being able to work in my own community is just excellent. I realize this is such a wonderful niche we have here. Almost all the business is gained through word of mouth and it’s a great feeling.”

Parker, who currently has two full-time employees, explains that what sets his business apart from others is the high quality service they provide. “I’m not some big corporation; I’m a local guy doing local business. I enjoy doing what I do…  I don’t want to be the great big giant warehouse with the great big giant showroom. I guarantee quality and I guarantee satisfaction, each time, every time.”
