The Chesapeake football team overcame a slow start and a weather interruption to improve to 2-0 with a 21-10 win over host Severna Park in the Cougars’ Week 2 matchup.

Receiver/defensive back Russell Tongue had three catches for 163 yards and a touchdown to go with two interceptions and 100 interception-return yards in leading the Cougars to victory in a contest that began on September 7 before lightning forced a postponement to the following afternoon.

Quarterback Dylan Young was 10 of 19 passing for 278 yards including an 83-yard touchdown pass to Tongue in the fourth quarter, when the Cougars scored 14 points to overtake the Falcons (1-1) for good.

Khalil Gary made the most of his seven carries, scoring twice for the Cougars, once in the first quarter and again in the fourth. Cole Foca (19 carries, 37 yards) fortified the Cougars’ ground attack while Colton Spangler caught five passes from Young for a total of 104 yards through the air.

Jimmy Revels-Allen was everywhere defensively, leading Chesapeake with 15 tackles on the day, while Cody Carpenter had 11 tackles and two sacks, Shaheem Brinkley had 11 tackles and Andrew Richardson had three sacks.

The win came one week after Chesapeake’s season-opening win over Towson and a week before the Cougars handily defeated Catonsville in their home opener on September 14 by a score of 45-6. Against Catonsville, Young threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns as Tongue, Spangler and junior tight end Brian Plummer all caught touchdown passes. Gary rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown, and Foca added 32 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Chesapeake (3-0) hosts Glen Burnie (1-2) on September 21.
