Chesapeake Frosh Van Valkenburgh Is Youngest Marathon Finisher In Vermont

Posted

Rising Chesapeake freshman Bridgette Van Valkenburgh, 14, had a busy spring playing lacrosse for the undefeated county champion Panthers junior girls lacrosse team, but she still found time to train for her first full marathon.

On May 26, Van Valkenburgh was the youngest finisher of the 26.2-mile Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, Vermont. Van Valkenburgh ran the race in 4 hours, 7 minutes and 45 seconds.

An honor student as an eight grader at Chesapeake Bay Middle School this past school year, Van Valkenburgh plans to run for the Chesapeake High School cross country team in the fall.

I would like to correct something that was incorrect in this article, Bridgette was in 8th grade during the marathon, not a freshman in highschool. I know this as I am a friend of hers and she is infact in 9th grade, not 10th at the moment
