Chesapeake's Young, Seidler Named To MSABC Preseason All-State Team

Having gone to the state final two years in a row, it’s not altogether surprising that the Chesapeake baseball program was well represented at the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches’ Preseason All-State awards on February 3.

The Cougars’ Joe Seidler and Dylan Young were both selected to the preseason All-State team.

Seidler, a senior, is a two-time selection to the MSABC Preseason All-State team and has been a dominant force from the pitcher's mound and in the batter's box as a three-year varsity player for Chesapeake. He is 16-3 with 113 strikeouts for his career, and he has allowed fewer runs than anyone in Anne Arundel County in each of the last two seasons. He batted .420 last year with 25 RBI's, 10 doubles, three triples and two home runs. Seidler is commited to play baseball at Radford University this fall.

Young, a junior, is a first-time selection to the MSABC Preseason All-State team. He was 6-0 with a 1.34 ERA as a starting pitcher in 2017, was the winning pitcher in Chesapeake's 5-1 victory in the 3A state semifinals and pitched two scoreless innings in the state final.

Chesapeake head coach Ken King received the MSABC District 5 Coach of the Year award. King is a three-time winner of the District 5 Coach of the Year (2014, '16 and '17) and was the MSABC State Coach of the Year in 2014, when assistant coach Michael Marsh was also named MSABC Assistant Coach of the Year.

Chesapeake groundskeeper Tony Caputo was recognized as MSABC Groundskeeper of the Year.

Severna Park’s Kody Milton and St. Mary’s Stephen Pelli were the only other Anne Arundel County players voted to 35-man preseason All-State team.
