On June 7 at the Woods Road Complex, CYLA held an ice cream social to hand out the 2011 Christopher Schulz Awards to one girl and one boy from each CYLA team in every age division.

Christopher Schultz was killed in a car accident in front of Chesapeake High School, and he always spoke of his days playing for CYLA as the most fun he ever had playing lacrosse. The Christopher Schultz award recipient of each boys and girls CYLA lacrosse team is the player who consistently demonstrates “Love of life, love of lacrosse, and leadership to his or her teammates.” In addition, at the junior level, Christopher Schultz’s parents award each recipient a $500 scholarship to go toward that player’s college tuition.

On the CYLA girls side, PeeWee division awards were given to Julia Dunkerson, Kiersten Blanchard, and Madison Shaner; Middie division awards were given to Renee Duffy, Jacquelyn Colangelo, and Carson Giordano; and Junior division awards were given to Hayley Jacobs and Jourdan Jones.

For the CYLA boys, Clinic division awards were given to Austin Samuel, Luke Bentz, and Jackson Hall; PeeWee division awards were given to Zach Schuler, Brett Devine, and Thomas Bullen; Midget division awards were given to Alex Millsap and Joe Soroka; and the Junior division award was given to Nick Foy. Jacobs, Foy and Jones each received a $500 scholarship to go towards college tuition.

Congratulations to CYLA’s 2011 Christopher Schulz Award winners
