Clean Sweep: Chesapeake Shuts Out Northeast In Both Rivalry Soccer Matches

Posted

The Chesapeake soccer teams were busy on Saturday being ruthless hosts to their neighborhood guests.

The Cougar boys and girls combined for two wins over rival Northeast, with the Chesapeake boys winning 2-0 and the Chesapeake girls winning 4-0.

Chesapeake’s boys saw a brace from Will DeAngelis in the rivalry win. DeAngelis broke a scoreless tie in the first half by converting a beautiful through-pass from Brett Joyner, and he doubled down on goals later in the game by finishing a pass from teammate Julian Denardo to lead Chesapeake to a 2-0 win. Ethan Belcher had six saves in the shutout victory, the first of the season for a young Chesapeake team looking to improve throughout the fall and play its best soccer come playoff time.

The Chesapeake girls were in fine goal-scoring form against the Eagles, getting goals from Haley Downin, Summer Smith, Ashley Chew and Megan Miller to defeat Northeast 4-0. Brooke Hurst assisted on Downin’s and Miller’s goals, and Downin assisted on Chew’s and Smith’s.

The Cougars, who came into the year expecting to do very well, are 6-0 and face a tough test when they host Arundel on Tuesday, September 25.
