Your Favorite Waterfront Establishments Are Open Year-Round

Your boat is winterized, the water is frozen over and your winter coat is now an everyday essential.

But you don’t have to wait until the summer months to enjoy waterfront dining. These Anne Arundel County restaurants are open for business year-round.

Stoney Creek Inn

At Stoney Creek Inn, outdoor seating is available year-round. This is made possible by a combination of “shrink wrap” and propane heaters. “We have the plastic wrap, and a customer of ours always shrink wraps the deck,” owner Dan Von Sas said. “It keeps it warm throughout the year.”

Another way to stay warm at Stoney Creek is to taste the rotating soup menu and seasonal specials. Maryland crab and cream of crab soup are always on the menu, as they are staples of the restaurant. “We only serve [steamed] Maryland crabs,” Von Sas said. “With that being said, we do not have crabs during the off season because we support local watermen.”

The soups are not made with Maryland crabs and are available all year long. The Stoney Creek Inn is available to host Christmas parties and will be open New Year’s Eve. The Stoney Creek Inn is located at 8238 Fort Smallwood Road.

Rams Head Dockside

Rams Head Dockside is open all 365 days of the year, said Executive Chef Tim Weinhold. The switch from outdoor to indoor dining happens at the beginning of October, Weinhold said, but with the “unpredictable” Maryland weather, the restaurant’s business plan prepared for that.

“What we do is we rely heavily on our weekly specials,” Weinhold said. “Also, with the summertime when we’re rockin’ pretty good, we rely on all that to carry us through that slower time, as we call it.”

The weekly specials are available all year long. In addition, there is live music select nights of the week and Rams Head’s signature Fordham & Dominion beer from its Dover, Delaware, brewery is served. Weinhold said they have looked into getting heat lamps to allow customers to sit outside longer.

“We have a lot to offer inside, too,” Weinhold said. “I don’t want people to look at us as essentially an outside destination beach bar.”

Broken Oar Bar & Grill

As the weather cools down, new waterfront restaurant Broken Oar Bar & Grill has noticed a slow in business, according to partner and manager Mike Malone.

“I think that people get so used to waterfront places shutting down over the winter that they just expected us to be one of the same,” Malone said.

A draw to Broken Oar is its 6-foot-high windows that look directly out over the water, which means that there is a great view all year long. Broken Oar hosts music, trivia and $6 burger nights on Tuesdays; $4 pizza on Wednesdays; and regular trivia and dollar wine on Thursdays.

Broken Oar is also hosting a happy hour from 4:00pm to 5:00pm on December 9 ahead of the Pasadena Boat Parade. It will serve as the starting point for the parade.

Deep Creek Restaurant & Marina

Now under new ownership, Deep Creek Restaurant & Marina is going through some changes. But it will continue to be open year-round.

“We’re open year-round now, and we don’t intend on changing that,” said owner Dan Donnelly.

Deep Creek Restaurant runs weekly specials Monday through Friday, including its “Ten Under $10” menu, which is available from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The menu features assorted items that are under $10. The early-bird menu, called Sunset Dining, is available from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.

Renovations to Deep Creek include remodeling the pier and building a downstairs bar. The restaurant will change its name to Donnelly’s Dockside and will hold a grand opening ceremony in April or May.
