Marley Glen Invites The Community To A Craft Fair

Marley Glen Special Education Center will hold its inaugural spring craft fair on Saturday, April 21, from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The school, located at 200 Scott Avenue in Glen Burnie, has a large population of students from Pasadena.

The event will feature about 35 craft vendors, face painting, a concession stand, raffles, and appearances by police and firefighters. The Maryland Masonic Child Identification Program will give parents the opportunity to record the vital statistics of their children.

Proceeds will go toward the school’s events throughout the year, whether it’s providing gifts for the students to give their parents during the holidays or hosting the Maryland Zoo’s ZooMobile.

Admission is free, but attendees should bring cash for shopping and food purchases. For more information, call the school at 410-222-6940 and ask for Leah Porritt.

SADD Basketball Game Will Reward Good Decisions

Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Pathways program is partnering with local SADD clubs to recognize about 30 basketball players who are positive role models in their schools. The fifth annual matchup, which highlights different schools each year, will feature George Fox Middle and Chesapeake Bay Middle on May 3 at 6:00pm at Chesapeake High School.

“They choose to be drug-free and be a positive role model, no referrals or behavior issues, while still being popular and playing sports,” explained Michele Fenner, a health and physical education teacher at George Fox.

The event will include SADD chapter sign up, music by a DJ, giveaways, a halftime dance show and several vendors: Pathways, the Anne Arundel County Health Department, Crisis Response Team, Anne Arundel County Police Department and the State’s Attorney’s Office.

“SADD is involved in this event because we want to get the word out to be positive and you can still be popular and choose to be drug-free and have fun,” Fenner said. “Our SADD students are such great role models at Fox and when they move on to Northeast. We have about 30 SADD members at Fox, and Northeast has almost 50 members. They are always so willing to help in whatever is needed.”

The public is invited to the game. Chesapeake High School is located at 4798 Mountain Road.
