Editor’s Voice

When I last wrote this column in May, we were only a few weeks past the latest sight of snow in Maryland. I’m not kidding — maybe some of you have forgotten (or blocked it out), but we got snow as late as April this year.

And now, we’re looking at sunny skies (occasionally), warm temperatures and long days. School is almost out for students, and many families are looking forward to taking some vacation time. That’s right: It’s summer.

I’m happy to say we at the Voice closed out the spring season with a bang. Graduations, sports games, scholarships and other achievements kept us busy, and we know you’re going to be excited to see the coverage in the pages ahead.

As we get ready for summer, we look forward to being able to cover some traditions both old and new. The Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company’s carnival, which is only a few weeks away, has always been a highlight for families all across Anne Arundel County. The carnival rolls into town on July 5 and stays through July 13, operating every night from 6:00pm to 11:00pm.

On the other hand, happening for the first time this summer is the Shop Local Festival put on by the Pasadena Business Association, set for Saturday, June 16, from 10:00am to 2:00pm in Lakeshore Plaza.

There are also such popular past times as the Downs Park kids fishing derby, the Stoney Creek Fishing & Hunting Club’s Wounded Warrior Day, National Night Out, and much more. Do you have a favorite summer event in Pasadena? Email me at dylan@pasadenavoice.com and let me know which one. Even if we already know about the event, it’s meaningful to hear why it’s so important to one of our readers.

I’m also excited to say that our inaugural Life on the Water Guide that came out in May was so well received that we’re bringing it back for a second time this year. Keep an eye out for this special edition coming with the July issue — it will be full of info on how to make the most of our area’s maritime culture. If you’re a water-related business interested in advertising or contributing some tips for our readers, give us a call at 410-255-5888.

I think it’s safe to say that the summer ahead looks like a great time to be covering news in the ‘Dena!
