Editor’s Voice

Posted

Sometimes I feel as if I always begin this column by saying, “This is an exciting time for us here at the Voice,” or some variation thereof. But in May, I really, truly mean it. It’s probably the busiest month of the year for us in terms of everything that’s happening around town (well, with the exception of the holiday season — but who’s thinking about that right now?).

As hard as it is to believe after having snow in April, summer is only a few weeks away, and that means nearly everyone is gearing up to end their spring season with a bang. Schools are looking forward to their proms, graduations, commencement ceremonies and scholarship presentations. Nonprofit groups are holding their end-of-year fundraisers and volunteer appreciation events. Just about everyone is looking to cap off several months of busy activity before switching into vacation mode in June.

While this edition touches on a few of those spring endeavors, there are many more left to come — proms and graduations, for example, you’ll get to see in our next issue, which comes out June 1. In the meantime, follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to get a glimpse at these activities as they are happening.

You’ll also probably notice that this issue of the paper includes a new special edition inserted in its pages. Our first-ever “Life on the Water” guide has tips and suggestions for how you can make the most of maritime culture here in the central part of Anne Arundel County. Whether you need to find a public beach with a boat launch or you’re just looking to enjoy some waterfront dining, this guide has the info you need.

We’re excited that the Voice is able to promote the Pasadena Business Association’s first-ever Shop Local Festival on Saturday, June 16, from 10:00am to 2:00pm in Lakeshore Plaza. We hope you can join us for this afternoon of family-friendly activities in celebration of our community’s thriving small-business scene. If you need details, check out our announcement on page A1.

As always, I encourage you not to let your news go beneath our radar, especially with everything that is happening around town this month. If you know of an event or you have a story idea, shoot me an email at dylan@pasadenavoice.com.
