Summertime in Pasadena has arrived at last, and along with the sunshine and warm weather comes the many other fun and unique perks of residing in our community: cooling down with a snowball, devouring those delicious Maryland crabs, boating around the Chesapeake, hanging out along Dobbins Island, and catching a local carnival. I think you’ll agree Pasadena is at its best during summer months!

With so much activity going on in our area, we’ve been racing around to cover as much as possible. Earlier this month, Chesapeake and Northeast High Schools held their graduations and we were fortunate to get some great photographs of the Class of 2011. While a few of the shots can be found in this issue, you can find many more on our website www.pasadenavoice.com.

Also included in this issue is a story on how one local guy transformed a simple piece of Mountain Road property into a beloved snowball stand. This month, the stand is celebrating 10 years of serving up one of Pasadena’s favorite summertime treats.

Did you know that exactly 402 years ago, Captain John Smith sailed up the Magothy River and stopped for lunch at Dobbins Island? I had no idea until I spoke with Paul Spadaro, President of the Magothy River Association. To mark the occasion, the organization hosted Magothy River Day at Dobbins Island on June 12. The fourth annual event attracted hundreds of boaters, jet skiers, kayakers and even featured a live, floating Jimmy Buffet cover band. How cool is that? Paul also explained to me just how much time his group puts into making the Magothy a safe, healthy and enjoyable place for our community. If you missed out, we’ve got you covered. Check out the story on Magothy River Day 2011 in this issue.

With summer only having just begun, there are dozens of events still to come. The Voice plans on being a part of as many of them as possible, so keep your eyes peeled for our reporters and photographers. As always, if you know of something special going on this summer in our special community, let us know – we’d love to hear about it.

Happy summer, Pasadena!
