Editor's Voice

The end of summer came to Anne Arundel County with a big bang. We were rocked by an earthquake (no big deal to this native of Southern California), then drenched by a series of wet, rainy weeks that included a visit from Hurricane Irene. Fortunately, neither the ‘quake nor the hurricane did as much damage as was feared.

And so we bid farewell to summer’s heat and start looking forward to autumn. This is my third autumn here, and I’m still entranced by the magic of the leaves changing color, the crisp, clear, beautiful days and the slow transition into winter. You don’t get that in San Diego!

Every month when I sit to write this column, I think about what’s going on around the Voice offices, about what great stories we have, cool new features we’re unveiling and how to encourage readers to get more involved. At this moment, I’m wishing Assistant Editor Hayley Gable “bon voyage” as she sets off on her honeymoon.

But I’m really excited about kicking off our new Voice Choice Contest!

The contest encourages readers to search through the pages of the Voice, looking for the answers to 10 trivia questions (all about Voice content, of course!) And you can win $250! Check the front page story for all the details.

Another new feature is our The Voice Asks column – a periodic feature where Voice staffers go into the community and ask a question. This month it was “What was your first job?” We grabbed a camera and notepad and asked folks like Sandi Parrish, XXX, XXX, and XXX. I loved this idea so much, I volunteered to do the first one. Getting out and about and talking to folks in the community was a terrific way to stay in touch with the community. Keep your eyes open for future The Voice Asks columns, and if you’ve got an idea for a question, just send me an email at pvnews@pasadenavoice.com, include The Voice Asks in the subject line. If we use your question, we’ll credit you in the story, and feature your answer first (if you want!)

Also in this issue is our Fall Home and Garden Guide – a terrific resource filled with informative articles and information about local companies available to help with home improvement and gardening projects. And, of course, our regular Voice Values coupon section has a brand new look and feel that we think our readers will really love. It’s easy to fit in purse, pocket or car, so it’s super portable!

All in all, we’ve been making some big changes at The Voice, all designed to give our readers a better paper! We look forward to and welcome reader input and opinions, so drop us an email with your thoughts.
