Full Steam Ahead: Clayville Railroad Outdoor Train Garden Prepares For Guests

Posted

Since 1999, the Clayville Railroad Outdoor Train Garden in Pasadena has delighted families during the holiday season. This year’s display will run from 5:00pm to 9:00pm during three weekends: November 29 to December 2, December 6-9 and December 13-16. All events are weather permitting.

New this year is the Disney World display, which has the Magic Kingdom castle, the Epcot sphere and the contemporary hotel, with a monorail train going through the park. In 2017, the family added a water-themed town with a lighthouse, marina and new boats.

This display is free to the public with hot chocolate, hot cider and S'mores for families. Every year, donations are accepted for a local family that has a child battling cancer, but this year, two families were chosen.

Kamila is a 2-year-old who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in June. She loves to read books and color, but she is now undergoing her third stage of chemotherapy. Kamila’s mom had to quit her full-time job to take care of her daughter.

The second beneficiary is Emma, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2016 at 3 years old. According to her parents, she has brain damage from the chemotherapy treatment that was injected into her spinal fluid and pushed into her brain. This has affected her personality, emotions and behavior. She is now in short-term remission after 27 months of intense treatment involving blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, immunoglobulin transfusions, eight types of chemotherapy, tests, bone marrow biopsies, X-rays, MRI’s, neurological testing, psychiatric testing, and lots of medications.

Those who want to support the families or just see the train garden are encouraged to view the display at 8269 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard. Special events include Santa visits on Saturdays and a fire truck during some evenings.
