Gallery Reception: Featuring Joanne S. Scott, Tony Spencer & BIG INK

Join us for a free Opening Reception to celebrate our newest exhibits. Meet the artists and enjoy their work at this wine and cheese reception celebrating our artists! As we begin celebrating our 40th year, we are especially excited to feature the work of Maryland Hall co-founder Joanne S. Scott! The evening includes light food, beverages, art and community. All are welcome to attend. Featuring the Exhibitions:

Artwork by Joanne S. Scott: 60 Year Retrospective
Chaney Gallery, 2nd Floor

​Joanne S. Scott was one of the co-founders of Maryland Hall in 1978. Her career as an artist and poet spans 60 years and includes mediums from acrylic and watercolor to lithography, etching, and various other printmaking techniques. This retrospective reflects Scott's love of the outdoors. Her poetry, which will be showcased in the exhibition, was inspired by her time spent in Annapolis raising her family and sailing its' waters. The book was illustrated by her late husband David.

Trybe-All (Tribal) Celebration Series: Paintings by Tony Spencer​

Trybe-All echoes a triumphant declaration of success, eduring life’s storms, disapointments, or just an unfortunate experience. The encounter requires the warrior to engage in a self-determined resistance until the conflict is won. The TRYBE is fictional; however, its meaning is understood and celebrated universally.  “The members of any individual’s 'tribe' are ever present to support one another in good times and times of challenge and distress.”

Tony Spencer is a Recording Artist/Poet/Model/Composer and Storyteller. He is the founder of Enrapture Records and Enrapture Ministries. Spencer has a B.A. and Masters degree from Sojourner/Douglass College. He was one of four Annapolitans to carry the Olympic Torch Across Maryland during the 1996 international games.

BIG INK
Martino Gallery, 2nd Floor

​An exhibition of archived BIG INK woodblock prints will be on display. The exhibition coincides with a visit from BIG INK and their largescale woodblock printing press on March 30 & 31. “It's very unusual to have a press this size that artists can come and use,” says Lyell Castonguay, BIG INK co-director and woodblock printer and teacher. Castonguay says there are very few community accessible presses of this size in the country. “It's hard to find.” This is the second time Maryland Hall will host BIG INK at their gallery. The event will feature artists based across the mid-Atlantic. The event is free and open to the public.
