Help Stamp Out Hunger On A CROP Walk

Posted

On Sunday, October 16, people from all over Severna Park, Millersville, Arnold, Pasadena and surrounding neighborhoods will gather together with one common goal – taking a walk. They will walk to support Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty (CROP), and 25% of the monies raised will go to SPAN (Serving People Across Neighborhoods).

A CROP Walk is a community event to raise funds to fight world hunger. The event began 50 years ago when farmers in the Midwest sent surplus crops to war-torn Europe. Today, CROP Walks help by donating $3,000,000 a year to food banks. Neighbors of different faiths, cultures and ages walk together and over 2,000 U.S. communities take part each year.

Funds raised during CROP Walks help assist those in need around the world, and at home. With a portion of the proceeds staying right in this community thanks to SPAN. The Severna Park CROP Walk will take place on October 16, 2011. Sign in begins at 12:30pm at Woods Community Center. The walk is 10K (6 miles) and will follow the B&A Trail. Participants will walk three miles, then turn around and return to the Woods Center. There will be a short turn around point for those wishing to walk a 5K. Jogging, dog walking, strollers and wagons are all welcome. Walkers are encouraged to get sponsors to help raise funds and refreshments will be served along the way as well as at the end of the walk.
