Here’s What’s Cookin’: PBA Gears Up For 10th Taste Of Pasadena

For the last 10 years, the Taste of Pasadena has provided community members an all-inclusive place to taste what Pasadena restaurants have to offer.

At the Pasadena Business Association’s 10th annual Taste of Pasadena, the theme is Mother’s Day, allowing restaurants to share specials they’re preparing for the holiday.

The event serves to spotlight Pasadena’s food vendors, and there will be 14 vendors this year.

Angel’s Food Market will feature items mostly from its bakery department.

“I like that it is a chance for us to be able to be creative and do a lot of things that most people don’t know that Angel’s does,” said catering manager Jeffie Bowen. “It gives us a chance for us to get out there and show people what we’re made of.”

Lauer’s Supermarket & Bakery will serve lemon basil chicken with a side of grilled vegetables.

“I like seeing the other vendors that come out,” said Bernie Snoops, co-owner of Lauer’s. “This is a community where we have the same focus, we do the same things, but I like to see what they’re doing, and see them and the people in the community. This is a good community event.”

When the event started 10 years ago, the food service industry was struggling, said event chair and PBA board member Lisa Hart.

“People were different 10 years ago,” Hart said. “They didn’t always have the money to go out to eat, so this gave them an opportunity to taste from several different venues and decide where they wanted to go.”

Hart said one of her favorite aspects of the event is watching the restaurateurs interact with each other.

“When they get a chance to get together in a group, it’s really a lot of fun watching them,” Hart said. “They’re not competitors; they’re a team. It’s really nice to see that they do help one another, they all know one another.”

The event also allows Pasadena community members to get to know the owners and managers of their favorite restaurants.

“The Pasadena community at large likes the fact that they do know the managers and the owners and the staff that works there,” Hart said. “Pasadena has always been famous for that: We like to know who we’re dealing with.”

The 10th annual Taste of Pasadena will be held Thursday, May 9, at Kurtz’s Beach. It runs from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Tickets are $25 for PBA members and $30 for nonmembers. Only 300 tickets are available for the event. They can be purchased at the Arundel Federal Savings Bank in Lakeshore Plaza, at the BB&T on Mountain Road or online at www.pasadenabusinessassociation.com
