Kids Helping Kids: Children In Action Undertakes Backpack Project

Posted

Students in the Children In Action group at Grace Baptist Church of Sunset Beach collected 13 backpacks for abused children in transit to foster care.

Julie Rhodes, who leads the group, explained the project was a mission outreach for the kids. A church member who has foster children suggested the Blue Ribbon Project, started by a survivor of child abuse who now collects the backpacks for children.

“When kids are taken out of a home, they often don’t have anything,” Rhodes explained. The backpacks hopefully smooth the transition just a little, she said. Church members helped supply pajamas, clothing, soft toys and toiletries designed for 3- to 4-year-old children, and the kids stuffed the backpacks. Rhodes said the group prayed over the bags, and for the children who would receive them and their families.

A representative from The Blue Ribbon Project shared with the children, explaining how the organization distributes the backpacks, and how much their contributions will mean to the recipients.
