Officials from Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) have appointed Pasadena resident Nathan Volke as a new member of the library’s board of trustees. Volke succeeds M. Hall Worthington, who resigned from the board in December after serving as a trustee for 18 years.

Volke, a family law attorney with the Law Office of Laura Burrows LLC in Annapolis, serves as a member of the Republican State Central Committee and as a parishioner at Hope Springs Community Church.

A graduate of Chesapeake High School, he received his bachelor’s in political science at UMBC and graduated with honors. He then attended the University of Baltimore School of Law. Following law school, he completed a clerkship with Judge Paul F. Harris Jr. on the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County before entering private practice.

“Our libraries are a vital part of our community, providing repositories of knowledge and expanding the horizons of Anne Arundel County residents,” Volke said. “As a lifelong reader and lover of books, it is an honor to join the library board and help to ensure those opportunities continue for generations to come.”

The board of trustees is the governing body of AACPL; it is composed of Anne Arundel County volunteers with a range of experiences and backgrounds who have a strong desire to ensure the long-term vitality of public libraries. Members are chosen based on character, ability and demonstrated interest in library matters. They serve a three-year term with the ability to extend their service for up to nine years.

“Our board of trustees represents the interests of the communities we serve. They are vital to setting the course for the library’s bright future,” said AACPL CEO Hampton “Skip” Auld.

The board of trustees meets at library headquarters in Annapolis on the third Thursday of each month at 4:00pm, except during July and August. In April and October, the meetings are held at branch locations. All meetings are open to the public. Elections for the board are held in June, and terms begin in September.
