Former Eagle And Cougar Making A Name For Himself

Pasadena local and mixed martial arts fighter Ryan McGowan continues to impress as an undefeated professional in the Mixed Martial Arts circuit. Last March, McGowan made his pro debut as the main event of a Shogun Fights II production and in just 30 seconds he beat Deon West by technical knock-out (TKO) to seal his first professional victory.

Since that time, he has continued on the path of success. On New Year’s Eve, McGowan’s second fight, a Shogun III event that took place in November at First Mariner Arena, aired on Comcast Sports Net. “I was pretty confident going in,” McGowan recalled. “I knew that [Bobby Favors] like to kind of wrestle lower, he doesn’t like to get hit. So I knew if I could keep him standing up I would be okay.”
More than 7,000 viewers watched live as McGowan handled Favors in one minute 28 seconds in the super heavy weight main event. McGowan will seek to continue his streak in April when he squares off in a Shogun IV event.
“I’m looking forward to winning,” said McGowan. “I don’t know who I’m fighting yet, but I want to keep winning.”
McGowan says he hopes to start fighting four to five times a year, and hopes to have a few things in the works for July and September of this year at Dover Downs. In the meantime, McGowan’s athletic success has flourished off the mat and on the field, as well.
In what McGowan says was his last season as a semi-pro football player, he was named Special Teams Player of the Year in the Mason Dixon Football League, as well as First Team All Conference Kicker and First Team All Conference Defensive Lineman for his contribution to the Arbutus Big Red team.
McGowan’s All Star team played in the All-American Bowl where they won 30-10, and then went on to win a National Championship game in Florida, 16-6, as McGowan was named the MVP of the game.
