The 12U Mountain Road Soccer Thunderbolts girls soccer team made a strong showing at the Ocean City Sand Duels Beach Soccer Tournament earlier this summer, going 3-1 and finishing in second place in their age division.

Comprised of Charlotte Bader, Jesi Fernandes, Emilie Forrester, Tara Dedrickson, Danielle McLain, Alana Marshall, and Marissa Emmart, the Thunderbolts made it to the tournament’s championship game against the Deep Run Charge from the greater Philadelphia area. With the score tied at two at the conclusion of regulation, the first PK round yielded another 2-2 deadlock. Deep Run then ended the drama defeating the girls from Mountain Road, 1-0, in sudden death penalties.

The Thunderbolts had a very strong showing at the tournament overall. They defeated their first three opponents by a combined score of 9-1 on the strength of goals by Marshall, Dedrickson, Forrester, McLain, and Fernandes.

“All the girls worked very hard and played tough,” said team mom Denise Bader.

Thunderbolts Coach Duffie Fernandes agreed, praising her team as a group of “dedicated and respectful” competitors. “They are a great group of girls,” said Fernandes before concluding, “They played hard and they played with heart all weekend. We are all so proud of every one of them.”
