Northeast Boys Get First Win Vs. CSP

Posted

The Northeast boys soccer team got its first win of the season by defeating Chesapeake Science Point 2-0 on September 14 on goals by Angel Calderon and Cole Switzer. Calderon netted a penalty kick in the first half, and Switzer headed home a corner kick from Matt Zephir. On September 11, Nathan Berry had 10 saves for the Eagles in a hard-fought, 2-1 loss to North County. The Knights went ahead 1-0 in the first half and took a 2-0 lead with under two minutes left in the game, but Zac Bergeron prevented the shutout by scoring off a pass from Switzer as the Eagles battled to the end. Coach Steve Hall sees improved possession in the program as a whole, but said the Eagles must make the most of scoring chances. “We’ve been really working on controlling the ball this year, which we’ve been doing good, and we’re making crosses, but just not finishing. We have 11 seniors and some good talent coming up the last few years. We’re controlling the ball on the ground more now. … They played hard [against North County]. … We’re gelling and controlling the ball.”
