Panthers Wrestlers Cap Successful Season With Strong Tournaments

Panthers Athletic Club had 64 youth wrestlers compete across Anne Arundel County’s A and B divisions, and a handful of Panthers athletes had strong showings at season-ending tournaments in the county and beyond. (1) Nathan Schreiber, 9, was the county champion at 100 lbs in the county B tournament at Arundel High School on February 18. (2) Landon Szymanski placed fourth in the 8U/55-lbs bracket at the Maryland State Wrestling Association age/weight state tournament at Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro on February 11. (3) Isaac Cichetti, 7, placed fifth at the county’s A tournament. (4) Bodkin Elementary’s Summer Mutschler, 7, was the lone female to wrestle for the Panthers this season and had a strong year. (5) Colin McDonald, 13, placed fifth in the county’s A tournament at 110 lbs. (6) Hunter Singer, 5, placed third in the county B tournament at 50 lbs. (7) Bently Schmidt, 7, was second at the MDWAY state championships at UMBC and sixth at the Maryland State Wrestling Association age/weight state tournament. (8) Bryce Schmidt, 5, was county champion in the B tournament at Arundel. (9) Payton Ambrose was third in the 45-lbs bracket at the county’s A tournament, and (10) Mason Copfer was fourth in the same bracket. (11) Wyatt Thompson, 8, was fifth in the county A tournament and eighth at states. Panthers Athletic Club wrestling is open to wrestlers of all ages and experience levels and will have free mat nights at Chesapeake High School throughout the spring.
