PBA Update

Posted

PBA recently celebrated the fifth-graders in the Northeast and Chesapeake feeder systems who were on the principal’s honor roll for the first three marking periods. Thanks to Two Rivers Steak & Fish House, the 80 students, along with principals and counselors, were treated to a lunch of chicken tenders and fries, and cartoons on big-screen TVs. Bruster’s Ice Cream of Severna Park and Glen Burnie brought ice cream treats for all of these bright students. A special thank you goes to C. Muhl Bus Company for picking the students up at their respective schools and dropping them off after lunch. Thank you to the Eastern District Police Station for sending officers to have lunch with the students. I also thank the education committee for all of its work and I thank those businesses that donated items for the students.

PBA gave away $15,400 in scholarships this year. Thanks to all those who supported the scholarship fundraiser, this is our best year ever. Our scholarship fundraiser platinum sponsors Jerry Nicklow of Huff Insurance and Keenan Wilkinson of St. John Properties presented scholarships. Jim Murphy of Murphy’s Fuel Oil Company was out of town, but we thank him for being a platinum sponsor. We want to thank the Maryland Yacht Club for hosting the scholarship luncheon this year. Thanks to members of our education committee for their hard work.

The PBA held its first Shop Local Festival on June 16 at Lakeshore Plaza. Everyone had a great time playing games and making crafts, face painting, listening to music and visiting with our vendors. The tentative date for next year will be June 8, so mark your calendars. Remember to shop local and support the businesses here that support the community.

Our 15th annual golf tournament will be held September 12 at Compass Pointe Golf Courses. This is a great way for local businesses and the community to help us raise money for the many community events that the PBA does. The proceeds from this tournament go toward our community assistance projects, which include Educational Excellence Awards, fifth-grade straight-A lunch, Veterans Day ceremony, parade, tree lighting ceremony, flag maintenance and more. Please get your foursomes ready, register to play golf and have a fun day. The tournament is open to the public, so we hope to see you there. Details are on the website, or you can email the PBA office for the form to register.

Our annual crab feast will be held on September 26 this year instead of July. It will be at Kurtz’s Beach, as always, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. This will be the same good time, just not as hot.

PBA is proud to be the chief’s sponsor for Eastern Anne Arundel County National Night Out again this year. This is a great event to meet your local police and fire department.

Join us on August 7 at Earleigh Heights Fire Department, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, rain or shine.

Mark your calendar for other PBA events:

Oct 11: Annual Trade Show, Earleigh Heights Fire Hall, 4:00–8:00pm
