PBA Update

Posted

The Pasadena Business Association started the new year with its election of officers and board members. Doug Cashmere of Ace Hardware & Hearth is the president, Brian Conrad of Edward Jones is vice president, Linda Loane of Pasadena Pawn & Gun is treasurer, Angela Balsamo of Coffee News is secretary and Jerry Nicklow of Huff Insurance is immediate past president. Our board members are Mary Brodowski of BB&T, Dr. Christine Calvert of Calvert Veterinary Center, Lisa Hart of Arundel Federal Savings Bank, Paulette Morris of Idea Weaver Promotions, Christine Richardson of Q Marketing & Design, Sam Tanner of Keller Williams Realty, and Ruth Toomey of An Extraordinar Limousine. We welcome all of the new board members and look forward to a great year.

Our bull and oyster roast scholarship fundraiser is March 3 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm at Kurtz’s Beach. We’ll have music from the ‘80s cover band Guys In Thin Ties. Prizes will be awarded to the male and female with the best ‘80s outfit. Tickets are $49 each if purchased by February 23 and $50 each if purchased after February 23. All proceeds go toward scholarships for local Pasadena students. Dust off your parachute pants, member’s-only jackets, stirrup pants and leg warmers, and rock out to music of the ‘80s.

Scholarship applications are available on our website for high school seniors and eighth-graders from the Northeast and Chesapeake feeder systems, or you can email the PBA office. If your child attends a private school but lives in the area and would attend one of the Northeast or Chesapeake feeder system schools, they qualify for these scholarships.

The PBA Directory is a first-class, easy-to-read book full of community information. There’s no need to log on to find a phone number or an address, and there is no searching through tiny type for something you need. The directory’s yellow pages are clearly divided into categories and can usually feature your own ad near category listing. Ads in the directory are an additional cost, but this is your chance to take advantage of effective advertising that costs only pennies a day and lasts throughout the year. That means your business information is in 5,000 homes, where it remains until the new directory comes out. It becomes the first place Pasadena looks for goods and services, because everyone wants to shop local and support their friends and neighbors who are owners and employees of local businesses.

This is a great time to join the PBA and be included in this Membership Directory and Community Guide and get your business name in those 5,000 homes and businesses.

Remember to shop local and help the businesses that give back to our communities.
