PBA Update

Posted
It is hard to believe that summer is almost over. The end of summer brings all of the Pasadena Business Association events for the fall and winter. We have a golf tournament in September, a trade show in October, a parade and Veterans Day ceremony in November, and A Child’s Christmas and tree lighting ceremony in December. Check our website for more information.

The PBA’s annual crab feast was hot, but the crabs were great. This is always a fun event at Kurtz’s Beach. The PBA is considering moving this event to September to avoid the heat of our Pasadena summer. We thank everyone for supporting the PBA and hope you will appreciate the date change.

We are holding our annual school supply drive again this year. These school supplies stay in Pasadena and go to schools in the Northeast and Chesapeake feeder systems. School guidance counselors provide us with the names of people in need. Many member businesses — Arundel Federal Savings Bank, BB&T, North Arundel Savings Bank and others — have drop boxes for these supplies. If you would rather make a monetary donation, we will shop for whatever items the counselors tell us is still needed. You can make checks payable to PBA and mail to PBA, P.O. Box 861, Pasadena, MD 21123-0861.

We want to thank all of the members who placed ads in our yearly Membership Directory and Community Guide. Maureen Agro of Cityline Business Park spends many hours editing this publication. We also want to thank Lisa Hart of Arundel Federal Savings Bank for helping proofread again this year. We want to thank Q Marketing & Design for the wonderful job of producing this year’s directory. We hope you will pick up a free directory from member businesses and use them when needing goods and services. Remember to shop local and help the businesses that support our community.

PBA’s 14th annual golf tournament will be held at Compass Pointe Golf Course on Wednesday, September 13. This tournament is open to the public, and proceeds go into the community assistance fund, which provides financial resources for the fifth-grade straight-A lunch, school supply drive, scholarships, Veterans Day ceremony, tree lighting, A Child’s Christmas, Caring & Sharing Parade, Friends of Downs Park donation, Friends of Hancock’s Resolution, National Night Out, flag site at the intersection of Route 100 and Mountain Road, and other worthy causes.

Every golfer receives a certificate for a free round of golf (cart fees not included). Prizes will be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin. We will have a putting contest to determine the best putter. We will offer a continental breakfast, hot dogs on the turn, and smokehouse buffet. Spend a fun day playing golf, help support community events and get a free round of golf — what a bargain.

PBA’s 24th annual trade show will be held on October 12 at Earleigh Heights Fire Hall from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The trade show, which is open to the public, will showcase more than 40 member businesses. Meet and mingle with our community businesses and see what they can offer. We will kick off our food drive, so please bring a non-perishable food item for our Pasadena food pantries.

We hope you have noticed the two new additions to the veterans memorial flag site at the intersection of Route 100 and Mountain Road. The guns that you see are 105-milimeter Howitzers from the Vietnam era. We are so grateful for everyone who helped the PBA secure these military artifacts. Navy Vietnam veteran Craig Rudder is currently looking into their history. Please respect the fact that these guns are military artifacts and not to be climbed on. Thanks to Lisa Hart for her dedication to this project and everyone else who helped the PBA secure these cannons. The PBA will officially dedicate these artifacts during the Veterans Day ceremony on November 11 at 1:00pm. All are welcome! It is because of our veterans and the sacrifices they have made that we continue to enhance this memorial site.
