Our 23rd annual parade was great and what a beautiful day for a parade. Fifty groups participated, so there were a variety of entries. We thank the Anne Arundel County Police Department for its assistance. Thanks to everyone who participated and watched the parade. We thank all the volunteers that made this parade a success: Angela Balsamo (Coffee News); Jerry, Dalton and Nancy Nicklow (Huff Insurance); Lisa Hart (Arundel Federal Savings Bank); Christine Richardson (Q Marketing & Design); Dick Parrish (Dick Parrish Design); Juli Blanton and Sam Tanner (Keller Williams); Doug Cashmere and Scott Ellis (Costello’s Ace Hardware); Brian Conrad (Edward Jones); Jim Anderson (Anderson Davis & Associates); Mike Agro (Cityline Business Park); and Larry Sells (Pasadena Voice).

This year, our grand marshal was Lauer’s Supermarket & Bakery for all they give back to the community. Lauer’s collects the food during the parade with the help of the Northeast High School football team, and also seeks donations in the store. They were able to purchase pallets of food. Gable also provides a large amount of food. We were able to donate this food to nine Pasadena food pantries.

You can watch the parade on YouTube by searching “2018 Pasadena Business Association Caring & Sharing Parade,” and the video is published by user MaxstoneMedia.

Our eighth annual Veterans Day ceremony was a great opportunity for the community to thank our veterans and active military for our freedoms. This is a special event for us. Every veteran and active military member stood, stated their name and told us when and where they served. It is great to see so many of them year after year. The flag committee and Girl Scouts presented them with a gift from the PBA and cards made by the students at Bodkin, Jacobsville and Pasadena elementary schools.

We need to thank the flag chair, Lisa Hart (Arundel Federal Savings Bank), who organizes everything. PBA President Doug Cashmere, (Costello’s Ace Hardware) and Vice President Brian Conrad (Edward Jones) were great emcees. The Anne Arundel County Eastern District Police Station kept order at the road. Bay Country Rentals provided the chairs. Colby Burl, a local historian and military item collector, brought items for everyone to see. Dick Parrish Design provided the sound system for the event. FTGraphics made a “Proud to be a veteran” sticker for each veteran.

Girl Scout Troop 10249, Brownie Troop 1232, and Dottie Snyder helped us with the plantings and maintenance on the gardens. JB Machine Parts & Supply provided the sound truck for the singers. Maher’s Florist supplied the wreath, which the Pasadena chapter of the Chosen Sons Motorcycle Club placed in front of the monument. Arundel Federal Savings Bank provided the flags given to the crowd, Bishop Greg Copley of Chesapeake Christian Center said prayers and Senator Bryan Simonaire was on hand for closing remarks.

The U.S. Navy Honor Guard of Fort Meade did the presentation of colors, Chesapeake High School chamber singers serenaded us with their beautiful voices, and Rick Barnes from the Maryland Defense Force Band played taps to end the program.

Army veteran Charlie Johns provides the trailer and drives everyone down the path from Lake Shore Athletic Complex to the flag site every year. Costello’s Ace Hardware & Hearth helps us with lowering and raising the flag as directed, Himmel’s Landscape and Garden Center provides the plantings at the site, JB Machine Parts & Supply help us with maintenance, and Pasadena Sign Company helps us keep the flag flying by maintaining the pole. The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks keeps the grass cut and the weeds under control.

We thank everyone who helps with the flag site and all it entails. We thank our veterans and active military for your service to our country.
