Puppy Cuts By Jenna Offers A Pet-icularly Good Service

You could say that Jenna Kuegel was groomed for her current role as owner of Puppy Cuts by Jenna. While she was growing up in Pasadena — from Sunset Elementary to George Fox Middle to Northeast High School — her parents ran a grooming parlor out of their garage and Kuegel always had pets. By the time she reached adolescence, she worked in a pet store.

Such a lifestyle may not work for everyone, but Kuegel loved and embraced it. “Dogs are my life,” Kuegel said. “I have a lot of them. Being around them my entire life is normal.”

Kuegel opened her mobile grooming service, Puppy Cuts by Jenna, in August 2016. From her vehicle, she offers a multitude of services: nail painting, hair dying, teeth brushing, shampooing, coat and skin remoisturizing treatments, deskunking, flea baths and more.

Her goal, she said, is to provide an experience for pets that mimics that of a luxury salon. Except her salon is a van equipped with a generator system.

“It’s a full-service vehicle, self-sufficient,” Kuegel said. “I don’t need to hook up to anyone’s electrical or water.”

But don’t let the name fool you. Although Kuegel is an avid dog lover, she also cares for cats and more exotic animals like guinea pigs, ferrets and birds.

The best part of the experience? It’s comfortable and convenient for both the pet and the owner. The pets are less stressed because there is no cage-drying, just gentle hand-drying, and owners can simply walk over to the mobile grooming station, which can be parked outside of their home.

“It’s great too for dogs with anxiety or older dogs,” Kuegel added. “[The appointment] is 45 minutes to an hour, you’re in and out. No cages; there’s one groomer. It’s pretty quiet.”

Kuegel is familiar with the needs of pets not only because she worked at a pet store but also because of her own background. She was a veterinary technician at Noah’s Ark in Millersville, and she used to be an American Kennel Club dog trainer.

These jobs showed her that there were happy and sad aspects of pet care, but with Puppy Cuts by Jenna, she gets to focus solely on the good aspects, although she is still quick to help pets when needed.

“A lot of dogs have heart conditions or seizures,” she said. “I know the signs to look for.”

Kuegel emphasized that she handles dogs, or any pets, of all personalities and sizes. Recently, she groomed a “huge king shepherd,” and by the end of the appointment, the two became good friends.

The local pet groomer hopes to make several more new friends as her business grows. She recently participated in the Pasadena Business Association’s Caring and Sharing Parade, and residents of Creekside Village may soon see her; she has a tentative agreement with the complex to remain onsite one evening a week to provide her services.

Although her business is relatively new, Kuegel already has her goals mapped out. “I’d own Puppy Cuts and have a couple of units with other groomers,” she said. “There would be a Puppy Cuts with Sarah or whoever, but I’d still have my own.”

Kuegel is flexible with appointments, often scheduling weekend and evening meetings to meet the needs of clients. “If I can fit you in, I can fit you in,” she said with a smile.
