Renovations At Loopers Field Bring Excitement For Upcoming Youth Sports Seasons

Pasadena Panthers football players and cheerleaders are in for an upgrade this fall season.

Over the last few months, the home field of Panthers Athletic Club, which recently merged with CYLA lacrosse, has been completely upgraded and updated, seemingly from top to bottom. With new lighting, improved concession stands, a new coaching booth, raised bleacher pads, larger parking lots and even new bathrooms, Loopers Field is set up to accommodate athletes and families much better going forward.

The changes were set for completion in early August, paving the way for the Panthers to use Loopers at the start of this 2018 season.

All of the changes should improve a field that has not undergone many changes since Panthers Athletic Club began using the field in 1998. Most of the original features of the field were done by the club at that time, including putting up the previous light fixtures and tearing down the old baseball fencing.

The current improvements are part of the second phase of changes to the field off of North Shore Road. The fields were changed over from dirt to Bermuda grass during phase one, which occurred over the last two years. The two fields are irrigated and a major upgrade.

Rob Elliott, who serves as vice president of Panthers Athletic Club, believes the renovations will have a large impact on the club as a whole.

“I think the first thing it does is it’s going to eventually, as people see it, increase our enrollment, because it is such a great environment,” Elliott said, citing the new bathrooms and parking lots specifically as areas of huge improvement.

The renovations certainly are not just for cosmetic purposes. Panthers officials expect that the changes will improve the overall experience for families and visitors, as well as increase the number of players who join the club, in large part due to the replacement of portable toilets with actual bathrooms and plumbing.

Along with these improvements, Loopers Field may also find itself as the new home field of another community organization. Plans are for CYLA to begin using the field for lacrosse as early as this spring. When completed, Loopers will become the home field for many youth sports in the Lake Shore area.

When asked about CYLA making the move to Loopers, Elliott was excited, stating it would be a “huge, huge change … beautiful park, [and the] county has done a great job,” sparking high hopes for what Loopers Field will bring for the community going forward.
