Siwinski Touches All The Bases For Lake Shore Baseball

Growing up, baseball was never the sport-of-choice for North Shore resident Brian Siwinski. Preferring soccer above all other sports, Siwinski wasn’t certain what to think when his wife registered their son Roland for t-ball five years ago at Lake Shore.

“All the baseball fans definitely come from her side of the family,” joked Siwinski.

Once his son began playing t-ball, a board member approached him and inquired as to whether he would be interested in becoming more involved. Without hesitation Siwinski obliged. Today, Siwinski is Vice President of the Lake Shore Baseball organization and also serves as one of the coaches for his son’s 11U Gray Sox team.

Butch Sain, President of Lake Shore Baseball, is thankful for Siwinski’s tireless efforts over the past years. “He keeps all the equipment running, maintains the fields, takes care of the signs, remains in charge of the day-to-day operations, and cleans up the trash when everyone else usually walks on by,” noted Sain, who has been on the Lake Shore Baseball Board of Directors for over a decade. “This league would not be possible without him.”

Aside from his roles as Vice President and Coach, he also serves as a Coach’s Advisor. “It’s a really big job when you have over 70 teams and 400 players,” said Sain.

When asked what his favorite part of being involved in the organization is, Siwinski is quick to respond. “Watching the t-ball kids is the best. Because our fields are positioned directly under BWI’s flight path, the kids get distracted every time a plane flies by. The game will just temporarily pause each time,” he laughed. “You can’t yell at them for it though. It’s just hilarious.”

Thanks to Sain, Siwinski and the countless other volunteers for the first time ever Lake Shore Baseball is organizing an in-house intramural tournament, which will take place over a two-week period. Games begin on Friday and are played through Sunday.

The reason for the tournament is simple. “Sometimes, there will be a team that goes undefeated and beats all the other teams by a landslide throughout the season. This tournament serves as an opportunity to give everyone a fair and fighting last chance, and it’s our ultimate hope that it will even out the odds for all the teams.”

As for other volunteer activities, in the past Siwinski has served on the Board of Governors of the North Shore Community Association and he is currently Secretary of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Drilling Association, a nonprofit trade association of contractors, manufacturers and affiliated members from the drilling industry. Currently, he works at an engineering firm in Annapolis.

“First and foremost, my goal is to provide every child with a great, memorable baseball experience. We have plans to construct five new fields in time for opening day 2012, and we’re working on strengthening all our intramural teams,” he said. “We have a lot going on, but I’m very glad to be a part of it.”
