SPCA To Host "Walk For The Animals" On April 29

Posted

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is holding its 21st-annual Walk for the Animals on Sunday, April 29 from 8:00am-1:00pm at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. The Walk will be held rain or shine.

Participants have the option to walk individually or as a team, and may walk a one-, two-and-a-half-, or five-mile course. There will be water stations along the course for walkers and their pets. Additional snacks and beverages will be available at the Graul’s Market booth.

Animal welfare organizations and rescue groups will also have booths set up for participants to learn about their humane work. The Anne Arundel County Police’s K9 Unit will put on a demonstration from 10:00-11:00am beside the Blue Heron Center. There will also be a Kid’s Corner located in the grassy area in front of the Blue Heron Center with face painting, arts and crafts, and other activities devoted to animal lovers of younger ages.

This is a perfect opportunity for families, friends, coworkers, schools, churches or groups to help raise money for the animals.

Last year’s event brought out more than 2,000 walkers and their companion animals. The Walk is the largest single-event fundraiser for the organization, and generated $255,000 last year. Proceeds from the Walk go directly to provide food, shelter and veterinary care (including spaying and neutering of all shelter animals) for the thousands of companion animals that are surrendered at the shelter each year.

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is an open-admission shelter, meaning they accept all owned animals that are in need of a new home. The shelter typically houses up to 425 animals daily, including dogs, cats and various small animals. Staff members and volunteers provide shelter animals with healthy food, fresh water, vaccinations and tender loving care.

The SPCA of Anne Arundel County has been helping homeless animals for 92 years. It is a private, non-profit organization that is supported solely by contributions, corporate donors, adoption fees and fundraisers. It does not receive any local, state or federal funding, support from national welfare groups, or funding from other SPCAs or Humane Societies. They depend on the support of local businesses and community members.

Bayside Animal Medical Center in Severna Park is collecting items to donate to the SPCA. You may drop off blankets, towels, and other items at their office at 844 Ritchie Highway, suite 102.
