Sports Report April 17: Shriver Throws Gem For Northeast Baseball, Downin Powers Chesapeake Softball, Pasadena Baseball Club Scores & More

The Northeast baseball team scored its biggest win of the season on April 16, defeating Broadneck 3-2 at Harry Lentz field behind a gem of a pitching performance by sophomore Owen Shriver. Shriver hurled a complete game with 9 strikeouts, scattering 5 hits and allowing only 2 walks. Colby Sanders led Northeast with 3 hits, while Brian Titus, Ryan Adams and Eric Walters all had 2 hits. Austin Anthony also had a single in three trips to the plate and walked twice. The Eagles improved to 7-5 on the season and host Arundel on Wednesday at 4.

Chesapeake baseball defeated Severna Park 6-3 behind Colby Buckheit's pitching and Dylan Young's three-run homer. 

Haley Downin pitched magnificently for the Chesapeake softball team in its 5-0 win over Severna Park on Tuesday, allowing just 2 hits in 7.0 innings and striking out 4 Falcons. Kexin Wang was 2-for-2 witha 2-run home run and 2 RBIs in Chesapeake’s win, while Tristyn Stewart had 2 hits, Alli Pollack had a hit and scored, Charli Smith had an RBI and scored and Sophia Bianco had an RBI. Chesapeake is 9-1 and hosts Broadneck on Wednesday.

Northeast softball pounded out 11 hits in a 6-3 victory over Broadneck. Taylor Norfolk pitched 7 innings, allowed only 2 earned runs and struck out 6 batters in earning the complete-game victory for the Eagles. Kiersten Tomshack had 3 hits, including a triple, and 2 RBIs. Gabrielle Baquol had 2 hits and Mallorie Hetzel had 2 hits and an RBI. See photos of Northeast’s recent victory over Meade. On April 14, the Pasadena Baseball Club 12U Gold travel team put up 19 runs on 19 hits in a blowout victory over PAL. Jack Schreiber hit his first home run of the season. Braiden Bolling, Hayden Johnson, Jaylen Howard, Mike Kooser, Donovan Jurich, Evan Geho and Logan Tewey all recorded hits. Kyle Richards improved to 2-0 on the season after flirting with a no-hitter, throwing 2.2 innings and allowing one hit. Tewey recorded the hold in relief of Richards. The 12U Gold travel team improved to 2-2 with the victory.

Northeast boys lacrosse fell 16-9 to Old Mill on Tuesday. Tanner Bishop led the Eagles with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Damian Wirth added 3 goals. Ryan Frick, Alex Evans, Riley Pitt and Bennett Diaz each scored 1 goal in the loss. Gary O’Neill made 7 saves, while Conner Westervelt stopped 5 Patriot shots.
