Sports Scores: April 3-5, 2019

Baseball

April 4: Colton Spangler, Tyler Shadle and Brandon Goodman all had two hits as Chesapeake baseball defeated Southern 6-4 on April 4. The Cougars improved to 6-1 overall with the victory, which came behind the pitching efforts of Lee Robinson, M. Mulford and W. Hinkle, with Mulford earning the win. Colby Buckheit, Dylan Young, Lee Robinson and James Hawkins all had hits for Chesapeake.

April 3: Northeast defeated Meade 11-10 on a walk-off steal. With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Rico Tyree stole third and advanced to score the winning run as the throw sailed into left field. Austin Anthony got the win to improve to 2-0 on the season as Nate Stephens, Gideon Volkman and Troy Curran all contributed on the hill. Colby Sanders, Ryan Adams and Brian Titus led the Eagles offensively with two hits each; and Anthony, Justin Kennedy and Matt Lorch had a hit each. The Eagles lost to Severna Park 7-1 on April 4.

Tennis

April 4: Northeast tennis defeated Glen Burnie 8-1 for the Eagles’ second win of the season. Logan Clark, Brendan Heptner, Hayley Simms and Sabrina Jackson earned singles victories for Northeast. Doubles teams of Jason Maatouck/TJ Woo, Ava Robertson/Carrie Hartzell and Austin White/Evelyn Cronise also won for the Eagles.

Softball

April 3: Northeast softball defeated Meade 9-0 on Wednesday. Highlights: Madison Schelfe 3 hits, 1 double, 2 RBIs. Kaitlyn Bayne 2 hits. Gabrielle Baquol 2 hits 1 RBI, 3 steals. Mallorie Hetzel winning pitcher, 7 innings, 7 Ks, 4 hits allowed. Eagles lost narrowly to Severna Park, 2-1, on April 4; Northeast is 4-3 on the season.
