"The Way Homes" Ministry Provides Recovery Program For Local Men

Greg Anderson prefers to say there’s no high like the Most High. That’s where he came up with the idea for “The Way Homes” 12-step recovery program, meant to help men recover from addiction problems. For Anderson, that means God must be at the foundation of every ‘home’ he will ever build.

“The one thing we all have in common is that we are looking for something that will complete us. Some men turn to drugs,” explained Anderson. “But men are searching for something more permanent than that. Jesus is the way to both eternal life and to peace on this earth.”

Opening their first Christ-centered recovery home in January of 2008, Greg and Sheri Anderson called it the “New Way Home.” Dedicated to helping men recover from dependency and addiction, they were immediately encouraged by the progress they were seeing and quickly opened a second home in November of 2008. In June of 2009, they built their third home. All facilities are located in Pasadena and were built by Greg Rich, a former ministry partner and close friend.

“I’m a Pasadena boy. I was raised in Pasadena,” added Anderson, who attended Northeast High School. “I have a special feeling for the place and the people here. Men here need help just like any place else. I want to help them find what they are looking for in the Lord.”

Over thirty men are now being housed and ministered at a Way Homes facility. Each man is assigned a private bedroom and a semi-private bath. All rooms are equipped with phone, TV, and web capabilities. While living at The Way Homes, each man is expected to pitch in with household chores, such as cooking and cleaning. It’s also each resident’s responsibility to live in harmony with other residents and encourage one another through their chosen 12-step program.

“We opened the Restorations and Salvations Thrift Store on July twelfth last year,” added Sharon Schaible, who currently serves as the Office Administrator for The Way Homes. “All the proceeds from the resale of donated clothes, furniture and household items help support the men staying here.”

To raise community awareness, once a month Anderson and his staff offer what’s called Free Friday Family Flea Market, located in the parking lot behind Restorations and Salvations Thrift Store at 2406 Mountain Road. Various items including men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, furniture and other household items are offered to the community free of charge.

“At these Free Friday events we also have Christian music, inspirational testimonies, and fellowship with other believers,” noted Scott Herwig, the Manager at Restorations and Salvations. “You can also pray with one of our staff at the prayer table, or you can leave your prayer with us and our prayer warriors will pray over your request.”

“We are starving for funding and starving for help. We are actively looking for local churches to join with us and help us,” added Anderson. “We feel called to help the men of Pasadena and Anne Arundel County. We want these men to reclaim their lives and the leadership of their households. Their children need them. Their wives need them. Their families need them.”
