Velocity Softball Traveled The Fast Track To A Winning Season

Posted

The Havenwood 8U Velocity softball team ended a successful season on June 6. While scores weren’t officially recorded, head coach Earl Smith lauded his team for winning almost all of their games and showing vast improvement throughout the season.

“Velocity has really advanced with their skills: batting, fielding, catching, throwing and base-running,” Smith said. “Defensively, fly balls were caught and throws from third to first were made. Velocity made the impossible happen in 8U. Every week we strive to have fun, maintain good sportsmanship and play hard every time we step on the field. I couldn't be more proud of the team.”

Velocity was also the top fundraising team for Havenwood Softball, with more than $2,302.

The Havenwood 8U Velocity were Mackenzie Austin, Emma Herron, Andraya Martin, Jules Nguyen, Eleanor Olsen, Kendall Poling, Callie Richards, Cheyenne Smith, Sierra Stetcher, Kylie Sterry, Gabriella Stitt, Scarlett Sullivan and Ava Walter.

Poling, Stitt, Stecher, Olsen, Nyguyen and Smith were selected for an all-star tournament held June 22-23.

The team was led by head coach Earl Smith and assistant coaches Dana Delucca and Steve Stecher.

“As my third consecutive season as head coach, it has been very fun and gratifying,” Smith said. “I can’t help but notice how close the team has become with each other. The parents have been wonderful to work with, we have a blast coaching and watching our girls play ball.”
