In spring 2019, Pasadena resident Ben Paul Morris and his crew won two awards for their first film, “The Solderer,” during the 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP), an international filmmaking competition. Now registered as Fort Smallwood Productions, Morris and his team are preparing for the upcoming DC 48 Hour Science Fiction/Horror Film Project, held October 11-13.

“The Solderer” was nominated for Best Drama, Best Director (Morris), Best Cinematography (Jeremy Jacoby), Best Actor (Lawrence Derx) and the Audience Award. The film won Best Art Direction (Lindsay Nier) and Best Score.

Morris expects this year’s entry to be filmed around Lake Shore. The team will compete in a field full of films about aliens, spacecrafts, fake blood and rumbling undercurrents, according to the project website.

Fort Smallwood Productions is seeking financial help with filmmaking. Team members are not allowed to receive pay, and all production expenses are out-of-pocket. Learn more details here.
