Plunge Events Raise $3 Million

This year, 8,753 dedicated “plungers” went to bear the cold and raised $3 million for Special Olympics Maryland. After rescheduling its February events, Special Olympics Maryland was able to take to the Sandy Point State Park beach from March 24-26.

Whether they took to the beach or took a virtual plunge from home, participants supported the 6,102 athletes of Special Olympics Maryland. Despite in person plunges already happening, it is not too late to do a virtual plunge. Fundraising is still open, and plungers can still raise $75 to receive this year’s commemorative 2022 Plunge sweatshirt. Plungers submitted their Plunger of the Year videos to be entered to win the Plunger of the Year competition. With a March Madness style bracket, supporters will vote beginning on Monday, April 4, and spanning seven days to ultimately determine the Plunger of the Year.

All the proceeds for the Polar Bear Plunge go toward funding Special Olympics Maryland sports, health, and leadership programs year-round for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Learn more, continue fundraising, or tune in the Plunger of the Year competition by going to www.plungemd.com.
