PSC U14 Tornadoes Storm Through McLean Premier Soccer Tournament

The PSC Girls U14 Tornadoes won the McLean Cup in dramatic fashion over the weekend of March 7-8 in Virginia.

Playing with only two subs all weekend, the girls had not allowed a goal going into the championship game. In the final match, they took a 1-0 first-half lead on a cross from Lindsay Cavey to Megan Strevig and held it until 1:50 left in the game when the opposing team finally got one in. Tired and bruised, the Tornadoes built up for one more push, and after earning a place kick from the 35-yard line, Kayley Paugh served in a perfect ball to Kelsie Payne, who volleyed it into the left corner with 16 seconds to go to put her team ahead 2-1 and complete the tournament win.

“This was an incredible win for the team,” said head coach Sam Campbell. “Short-handed, missing key players, the girls didn't give an inch. Their desire to win and push through adversity and fatigue was inspiring to me as a coach.”
