University Of Maryland Urgent Care Opens Two New Locations In Anne Arundel County

The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 21 to celebrate the opening of a new urgent care center at 4125 Mountain Road in the Lake Shore Plaza shopping center in Pasadena. The new space offers over 3,000 square feet of clinical offices and examination rooms. UMMS also opened a Glen Burnie facility in July. That location occupies close to 3,000 square feet at 7954 Crain Highway. Both centers will operate seven days a week from 8:00am to 8:00pm for adult and pediatric patients over 12 months of age.

Together, the two sites will employ about 30 people and provide care to more than 20,000 patients annually.

“Expanding our services into Anne Arundel County will provide more Marylanders with accessible, integrated care close to home,” said Scott Burger, chief medical officer of UM Urgent Care. “Our urgent care centers are designed to help alleviate some of the pressures on emergency departments and offer an alternative care option for community members. Our goal is to connect more residents across the county to high-quality health care that is convenient and affordable to help improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve.”

As a part of UMMS, UM Urgent Care offers comprehensive medical services that bridge the gap between primary care and emergency room visits. Health care providers see patients in-person and virtually for a variety of ailments including fevers, rashes, allergies and asthma, headaches, eye injuries, sprains and broken bones for a fraction of the cost of an emergency room visit. The centers also provide X-ray, electrocardiogram and onsite lab testing to support preoperative examinations, as well as occupational health needs and sports physicals. When needed, UM Urgent Care’s clinicians can support patients with referrals to primary and specialty care providers, including those offered through UMMS and its Glen Burnie hospital, the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC).

“Our mission is to create greater access to care for our community,” said Kathy McCollum, president and chief executive officer at UM BWMC. “We are excited to collaborate with UM Urgent Care to help more patients access primary, urgent and specialty care services, so that they can better manage their care closer to home and decrease their chances of needing emergency care.”

The Pasadena and Glen Burnie locations mark the 13th and 14th urgent care centers that UM Urgent Care operates across the state.
