Life In The Park Keeps Getting Sweeter

All signs are pointing toward eating dessert first. The signs, that is, that are going up around Severna Park and signaling the arrival of some sweet new businesses. Three new stores will offer candy, ice cream and cupcakes in the days and months ahead.

The Sugar Shoppe, owned by Jamie Denton and Eloise Patton, officially opened for business yesterday and will be open this Wednesday through Friday with limited hours. The storefront at 4 Riggs Avenue is not only a candy-lover’s haven stocked with unique treats but also a party supply and gift shop.

Across the street, a window sign is on display at 600 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, heralding the upcoming arrival of Always Ice Cream Company. The Annapolis-based creamery serves a rotation of over 200 house-made flavors at five (soon to be seven) central Maryland locations, and as of May, projected a late summer or fall opening for its Severna Park scoop shop.

A third new signage installation in the 360 Ritchie shopping center on Route 2 South suggests a Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery is also coming to town. With roughly 150 locations, the nationwide chain offers sweet treats in the form of a dozen baked-fresh daily cupcake flavors as well as a selection of creative small-batch ice cream flavors.
