Meet The Kids And Celebrate 25 Years Of Kinder Farm Park

Kinder Farm Park will host its annual Meet the Kids event and celebrate its 25th anniversary this Sunday, June 30, from 11:00am-3:00pm.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see baby animals such as piglets, courtesy of the Kinder Farm Park 4-H Livestock Club, lambs, a variety of baby goat breeds and baby quail, in addition to the adult animals typically onsite.

“It was a very healthy birthing year at Kinder,” said Karen Haghighi, vice president of Friends of Kinder Farm Park, who added that three of the farm’s dairy goats birthed triplets this year and one had twins.

Meet the Kids combines family fun with farm and animal education, Haghighi explained. Volunteers and staff have many hands-on activities planned for the day, including cow milking and sheep shearing, as well as presentations on how wool and goat milk products are used. Some of these materials will also be utilized in arts and crafts projects.

The sawmill, woodshop and blacksmith shop will all be open. Tours will be available of the Kinder Farm House Museum.

This year’s event is doubly special, as the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks is commemorating the park’s 25th anniversary with a bounce house and hayrides. Food truck fare and sno-balls will be on site for purchase.

“There’s not another park like this in Anne Arundel County,” Haghighi said. “It’s definitely a diamond.”

While the animals and playgrounds are well-known and frequently visited attributes of the park, Haghighi encourages visitors to check out the Garden Squad farm area, which is accessible by foot via the gravel road just beyond the Green Hornets fields. Volunteers are on hand to offer advice on planting and harvesting vegetables.

“We do cover all aspects of farm life,” she said.

Gate fees will be waived at Kinder Farm Park for Sunday’s event. Guests will be directed to park in the lots adjacent to the Green Hornets sports fields. Parking near the visitor center will be reserved for patrons with disabilities.
