Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra Presents “A Season Of Song & Story”

Performances Slated For September 2026 Through June 2027

The Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra (NPO), under the baton of Music Director/Conductor Anna Binneweg, announced its 2026-2027 season, a celebration of emotion and evocative music that touches everyone. Themed “A Season of Song & Story,” the performances will transport audiences to delightful places through unforgettable classical masterworks and contemporary classics from stage and screen.

“Music serves as one of humanity’s most powerful ways to connect and share stories,” Binneweg said. “‘A Season of Song & Story’ invites audiences on a journey that explores unforgettable narratives, timeless melodies, and shared experiences that bring our community together.”

September 19: ¡Viva la Música! A Night of Fire & Flair
Featuring soprano Colleen Daly
Maryland Hall, 7:30pm
To honor Hispanic Heritage Month, selections include “Cuban Overture” by American composer George Gershwin, “Symphonic Dances” from “West Side Story” by American composer Leonard Bernstein, “Paconchita Latin Overture for Symphony Orchestra” by Spanish composer Óscar Navarro, “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5” by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, “Si Tú Me Faltaras” by Cuban composer Luis Hernández Alfonso, “Four Dances for Orchestra” from “Estancia” by Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera, and “Conga Del Fuego Nuevo” by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez.
 
October 25: Halloween Spooktacular!
Featuring Violin/Viola Marcolivia Duo with master of ceremonies Michael Hughes and a costume contest for all ages
Key Auditorium, St. John’s College, 3:00pm
Designed to appeal to the NPO’s younger patrons (and their parents), selections include “Mars, the Bringer of War” from “The Planets” by English composer Gustav Holst; “Funeral March of a Marionette” by French composer Charles Gounod; “Double Concerto for Violin and Viola” by English composer Benjamin Britten; highlights from “Wicked” by American composer Stephen Schwartz; “How to Train Your Dragon” by English composer John Powell; the main theme from “Beetlejuice” and “This is Halloween” from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” by American composer Danny Elfman; and “Pictures at an Exhibition: Baba Yaga/Great Gate of Kiev” by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky.
 
February 21: Echoes of Love & Longing
Featuring violinist Irina Muresanu
Maryland Hall, 3:00pm
Just a week after Valentines Day, the romance continues with “Roses from the South” by Austrian composer Johann Strauss, “Romance for Violin & Orchestra” by American composer Amy Beach, “Salut d’amour” (Love’s Greeting) by English composer Edward Elgar, “Carmen Fantasy for Violin & Orchestra” by Spanish composer Pablo de Sarasate, and “Symphony No. 6 ‘Pathétique’” by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
 
April 11: It’s Magic! Hits of the Hi-Fi Era
Featuring vocalist Joan Ellison and winners of the 2027 Young Artists Concerto Competition
Maryland Hall, 3:00pm
Including “Serenata” by American composer Leroy Anderson, and songs made famous by Rosemary Clooney, Keely Smith and Eydie Gormé as well as by Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald and Doris Day.
 
June 5: Landscapes of Radiance & Light
Featuring the Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra Chorus directed by Jeanne Kelly and Apex Arts Vocal Ensemble directed by Lauren Walker with master of ceremonies John O’Leary
Maryland Hall, 7:30pm
The final concert of the season will include the “William Tell Overture” by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, “Appalachian Spring Suite” by American composer Aaron Copland, “In a Summer Garden” by English composer Frederick Delius, “Illuminare” by American composer Elaine Hagenberg, and choral selections.
 

Tickets for all Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra concerts are $25, and students of all ages are admitted free. Tickets are available at www.naptownphil.org.
