After a tough end to the 2025 season, the Broadneck field hockey team looks to have its groove back.
Broadneck emerged from a front-loaded heavy schedule with a 6-1 record to end September, headlined by a public-private battle and two reigning state champions coming to town.
They opened up the season with a 2-1 win over defending 2A champion Glenelg, before falling by the same scoreline to reigning 1A champ Liberty.
In the win over Glenelg, Cate Imber and Raelyn Soares netted for Broadneck, while goaltender Trish Maloney had 16 of the team’s 21 saves to deny the Gladiators.
The Bruins bounced back from the narrow setback with a 4-2 win over Kent Island, led by two goals from Vera Shaklee. Imber and Lizzie Hall also found the back of the cage for Broadneck, which scored the first four goals before conceding a pair of late tallies.
Broadneck then played in a tournament hosted by Archbishop Spalding on September 19. They handled Westminster 4-0 before battling to a 1-1 draw against the hosts in the event’s marquee matchup.
The Bruins closed September with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Crofton, where they scored twice in two minutes in the fourth quarter to overturn a 2-1 deficit, and a 3-2 overtime win against the Severn School, where Laurie O’Leary netted the game-winner.
Next up are three tests in four games: October 1 against South River, October 6 against high-flying Arundel, and then the October 13 showdown with rival Severna Park.
